The year 1968 marked the beginning of a new generation of Corvette Convertibles.  This generation of convertibles was heavily influenced by Chevrolets “Mako Shark II”.  The first glimpse the motoring public got of the car was not on a race track or in a show room.  Toy maker Mattel introduced its line of Hot Wheels cars with a 1/64 scale version of the 1968 Corvette Convertible as part of the new line of toys weeks before the 1968 Corvette Convertible was officially unveiled by Chevrolet.
